| Camp Alkebulan is a three-week summer abroad program for African American teens from urban communities who volunteer for a community improvement project in Ghana. The program takes teens whom have successfully completed both Camp Akili and Stand for Somethin' to West Africa in order for them to gain a global understanding of other African communities. When teens return from Camp Africa, they serve as youth leaders who recruit, train and conduct workshops for the organization's programs. Camp Alkebulan operates from the premise that when people, particularly young people, are exposed to different cultural environments, they are better able to reflect on their own lives and communities and develop more innovate strategies for solving problems. |
